[News] Beer and Civilization

Although that article is not new, in fact is from march 2013, it still is very interesting. It deals with the question if grain originally was grown and stored for making bread or beer at first. And evidences seem to tend into the beer direction more and more…

Current theory has it that grain was first domesticated for food. But since the 1950s, many scholars have found circumstantial evidence that supports the idea that some early humans grew and stored grain for beer, even before they cultivated it for bread.

Brian Hayden and colleagues at Simon Fraser University in Canada provide new support for this theory in an article published this month (and online last year) in the Journal of Archeological Method and Theory. Examining potential beer-brewing tools in archaeological remains from the Natufian culture in the Eastern Mediterranean, the team concludes that “brewing of beer was an important aspect of feasting and society in the Late Epipaleolithic” era.

[iOS] iPhone 4 and the iOS 6.x firmwares

iphone4-pwnedAbstract

You are using an iPhone 4 and you coincidentally updated to iOS 6.1.3, which cannot be jailbroken at the moment. Since you saved the SHSH blobs you think you can restore by doing a replay APTicket attack with TinyUmbrella or Cydia. Sadly iTunes shows errors like 1600, 1601, 1602, 1604 etc.

If you have an iPhone 4s or iPhone5 you can stop reading here. This article will not be able to help you. The iDevices with an A5 CPU or later cannot be downgraded with replay attacks at the moment. Continue reading

[MacOS] Determine Manufacturer of a Mac Book Pro Retina Display

There is a a lot of fuss going around the latest Retina equipped Mac Book Pro’s. Looks like the MBPs can be delivered with either a Samsung display or a Sharp/LG. The problem is: the Sharp/LG displays seems to produce ghosts on the screen. Apple says there might be “image persistance” in some rare cases, but did not admit that it is related to the type of display used. Anyway the Apple discussions forum provides a huge thread.

So if you wanna make sure that you don’t have a Sharp/LG display in your MBP just type this line: Continue reading

[Muzaq] Namm 2013: Bitwig Studio in Action (Video)

Besides Ableton Live 9, the uber-most anticipated music software so far is still Bitwig Studio.

Although the beta test, announced almost exactly a year ago, seem to have included only a tiny part of their potential target market, the people are still more than keen on what the current status of development is…

Check the following video from the NAMM 2013 to get the latest insights – and pray with us that we get a public beta soon ;-)

[Muzaq] Coldcut meets the Orb

Quoting Ninja Tune’s Soundcloud entry fits perfectly here. Enjoy ;-)

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK’s assassination and 21 years after their historic ’92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over 3 hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight – but also loose – 2 hour Solid Steel session.
