[iPhone] Recommended Apps: Avatron Air Sharing

We already reported about Avatron’s Air Sharing some weeks ago. This really is the App of the Week. Avatron Air Sharing allows copying files from and to the iPhone wireless, thus allowing to use the iPhone similar to a portable hard drive. The only condition is to use a WebDAV compatible up- and download program. Moreover it is an excellent PDF reader. It stores the pages of all the PDFs you’ve opened yet.

[iPhone] Lotus Domino for iPhone Available

IBM announced the availability of a Lotus iNotes version for the iPhone for every company holding a Lotus license. Eventually IBM brings Lotus Domino to the iPhone.

The iPhone iNotes is no native app, but a web front end. This ensures that no data remains on the device in case it gets stolen or lost.

[iPhone] Apple drops NDA for iPhone Developers

In a press release Apple yesterday announced to drop the “non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for released iPhone software (..)”, because it “created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success (..)”. Developers are now allowed to publicly discuss matters of Apple’s iPhone SDK. Anyway, Apple added this does not apply to unreleased software. Unreleased software will remain under NDA until release.

[iPhone] Adobe Confirms Flash For iPhone

On the Flash on the Beach Conference eventually Paul Betlem – senior director of engineering at Adobe – confirmed, Adobe is actively developing a Flash version for the iPhone. The Flash Magazine reports, Adobe will have a Flash Player for iPhone available in short time, but since the iPhone is closed plattform Apple will decide when it will be released.

In March Microsoft and Adobe announced to license Flash Lite and the Acrobat Reader, so that all upcoming Windows Mobile OS based devices will support it.

[iPhone] Recommended Apps: PaklSound1

People in the know what’s going on in the field of music innovations have already gotten to know Tenori-On by Yamaha. Tenori-On is by far the most innovative new music instruments (read article here).

Anyway a group of programmers now decided to bring at least parts of the fun that Tenori-On includes to our beloved Jesus phone. The application is called PaklSound1 and is pure fun when sitting in the train or anywhere else. Be warned it is by far not as powerful as Tenori-On and requires lots of battery power, but therefore it costs only 0.79€ (0.99US$).

[Android] First Google Android Cellphone: HTC G1 (update)

Today T-Mobile US, HTC and Google presented the first cellphone running with the Android operating system by Google. The HTC manufactured device will be called “G1 with Google” and will be available from october 22nd, 2008 for 180US$. The phone will be net-locked to the T-Mobile US network.

T-Mobile’s tariff

T-Mobile’s plan includes a data traffic up to 1GB with UMTS, after 1GB traffic will be slowed down to the GPRS level. The monthly plan including 400 SMS’ will cost 25US$/mth (with unlimited using of Messaging: 35US$)

The HTC G1 phone

The HTC G1 phone integrates a touch screen like the iPhone, a tiny keyboard that hides behind the screen if not required, a camera (3megapixel) and an extension slot for microSDHC cards (256MB card preinstalled).

Availability of the HTC G1

Introduction in Great Britan: early november.
Introduction in Germany: early december.

[iPhone] T-Mobile to Sell Prepaid iPhone 3G in Germany

Starting on 1st of october, 2008, T-Mobile Germany is going to offer the iPhone 3G with a prepaid plan for 569€ including 100€ calling credit. Following features will apply:

  • 0,29€ / min to any german carrier
  • 0,19€ / SMS
  • no included data (Xtra web’n’walk Starter costs 0,90€ every 10 minutes)
  • Use of T-Mobile’s WLan Hotspots not included
  • Switching to a “real” T-Mobile plan is possible, an amount will be paid back then – depending on the plan

The iPhone will still have the SIM Lock and will not work with other german or international carriers.

Abstract

Avatron Air Sharing allows copying files from and to the iPhone wireless, thus allowing to use the iPhone similar to a portable harddrive. The only condition is to use a WebDAV compatible up- and download program (find a list below the picture).

Supported File Formats

Air Sharing also allows to preview files on the iPhone itself. It supports the following formats as previews:

  • iWork (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote), full resolution if saved with preview
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), with limited support for XML formats
  • Web Archive (web-page downloads packaged by Safari)
  • Web page
  • PDF
  • HTML
  • RTF (Rich Text Format)
  • RTFD (TextEdit documents with embedded images)
  • Plain text (many different file extensions), with Unicode support
  • Source code (C/C++, Objective C/C++, C#, Java, Javascript, XML, shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python, and more), with color-coded formatting
  • Movie (standard iPhone formats: H.264, MPEG-4, 3GPP, etc.)
  • Audio (standard iPhone formats: MP3 VBR, AAC, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, CAF, etc.)
