[iPhone] Recommended Apps: PaklSound1

People in the know what’s going on in the field of music innovations have already gotten to know Tenori-On by Yamaha. Tenori-On is by far the most innovative new music instruments (read article here).

Anyway a group of programmers now decided to bring at least parts of the fun that Tenori-On includes to our beloved Jesus phone. The application is called PaklSound1 and is pure fun when sitting in the train or anywhere else. Be warned it is by far not as powerful as Tenori-On and requires lots of battery power, but therefore it costs only 0.79€ (0.99US$).

[iPhone] Nullriver’s Netshare remains banned from AppStore

Nullriver reports, their tethering software Netshare remains banned from Apple’s official AppStore. Netshare allowed MacOS X users to use the iPhone as a wireless modem to connect to the internet. While most of  nowadays’ cell phones include such functionality, the iPhone still doesn’t.

Besides Nullriver many other developers critisize Apple’s AppStore policies for being too vage. In the past weeks Apple banned several Apps or even disallowed them in the first place. Apple argued the banned apps had a limited value of benefit for the AppStore customers. Developers argue Apple doesn’t want real competition.

[e-Biz] Google’s Android Market feels like Apple’s AppStore

It looks like Google learned from Apple in the question how to distribute content and useful applications to the customer. Google will introduce a marketplace, that is quite similiar to what Apple already introduces as AppStore. As Google puts it: “We chose the term “market” rather than “store” because we feel that developers should have an open and unobstructed environment to make their content available. Similar to YouTube, content can debut in the marketplace after only three simple steps: register as a merchant, upload and describe your content and publish it.

Google also plans to integrate a wide range of statistics and analytic tools to the developers. More infos and more photos to be found here. We feel like Android’s GUI looks like Google learned a lot more from Apple than other companies in this short time. Isn’t it sarcastic, that Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt is member of Apple’s Board of Directors?

[iPhone] Makayama releases Voice Dial App

As of yesterday Makayama released a Voice Dial Application for the iPhone. That means we finally can dial numbers without looking at the screen. Driving in your car and making phone calls is much safer now.

Voice Dial does not depend on a dictionary or vocabulary. Instead you can record voice samples for any contact in the addressbook. It therefore works with all languages.

There are two versions of Voice Dial:

  1. For iPhone firmware version 2.0 (updated iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G): Simply download from AppStore using iTunes.
  2. For iPhone firmware version <= 1.1.4. Your iPhone needs a ‘jailbreak’ to install. Start Installer, press Sources, then Edit , then Add . Next, type http://tinyurl.com/3544mp

The introduction offer until August: is $ 24.95 (EUR 17.95) ex. tax

Voice Dial is definitly the missing application for the iPhone. Find the manual here or watch the video:

[iPhone] Apple’s AppStore DRM broken

You don’t trust DRM protections? You read that Microsoft and Yahoo switched off their DRM servers thus disallowing the continuous use of legally bought Music?

Then this might be the news for you. Sources that wish to stay anonymous confirmed and explained that removing of AppStore’s DRM of your legally bought applications is fairly simple for people who know what a command line is.

The technique only requires a jailbroken iPhone that got SSH installed. Once you legally bought the application you can run it on your iPhone / iPod Touch. Then you log in via SSH, determine the process ID and dump a part of the memory. Since the application needs to be decrypted in order to run on your iPhone it will be decrypted before it’s going to be executed. So in memory you have the decoded binary and you only need to dump in to a file. Using the GNU debugger here makes your life easy. After that you only need to replace the part of the encrypted binary with the memory dump and set a flag to not encrypted. People who know what ProcDump in the early Windows days did: this is exactly the same technique without the automatization.

Anyway we’re not sure if more concrete information may violate Germany’s weird intellectual property rights, we can’t go into further details here. We recommend to do a Google search. You will most likely find one or two tutorials that go in to detail step by step. Applying that technique will allow you to save your very bought apps. We don’t condone misuse or piracy.

[iPhone] iPhone AppStore already accessable via iTunes

One day before the official launch of the iPhone 3G, over here in Germany the Appstore is already accessable. This comes in a moment where some sites and forums rumor that the new 2.0 firmware can also already be downloaded for offline update. We recommend to not download the 2.0 firmware yet. The Pwnage tool does not support firmware 2.0. Be warned if you brick your iPhone.

How to access AppStore (one day before offical launch)

  • start iTunes
  • open the iTunes Store
  • search for an App like Super Monkey in the iTunes Store
  • et voilà

Types of programs you can buy or download for free

The AppStore is a major step into the right lane. Apple did the right thing here. Prices vary depending on the application. The highest price we’ve seen yet is 25.99€ for “Universalis”. “Universalis” contains psalms, prayers and readings from the Catholic Liturgy. Believing in God seems to require the iPhone nowadays.

Even Erica Sadun (kudos!) got some titles into the AppStore, like her famous To Do List, that we all know from the AppTab Installer days.

Enuff said: get yourself an own impression and start your iTunes, now…
