[Bitwig] The Platform-Independent DAW Is Out NOW

bitwig-logo-screen2One of the most promising tools of the last view years – the platform independent DAW Bitwig Studio has eventually been released yesterday. It is available for MacOS, Windows and Linux. Bitwig is a Berlin based company, originally founded by former Ableton developers. The relation to Ableton is something that put the expectations of Bitwig to a comparative high level in the field of DAWs.

We’re gonna check out Bitwig in depth during the next few days and let you know what we think. In the meantime: get yourself a demo run for free. Since the save and export feature is disabled in the normal demo version, we recommend to go for a trial license, which requires registration. Head over to https://www.bitwig.com/en/account/register.html and give the next generation of platform independent DAWs a serious go.

[Muzaq] Native Instruments’ November Special Offer

Special November Offer

Native Instruments just announced to give a rebate of 50% on their Vintave Compressors (VC 76, VC 2A, and VC 160) and Transient Master plugins.

The rebate is available via the Native Instruments Online Shop ONLY. The offer ends November 26th – so seven days to decide!

Demo Versions

For you, who wanna try-before-buy, check this link for the demo versions. Sadly some really annoying and thus workflow hindering limitation have been applied to the demos:

  • 30mins only total runtime
  • saving presets is possible but loading is not
  • total recall is disabled

We really can’t imagine a scenario where a plugin or an instrument can be tested sufficiently within 30mins, but hmmm… still better than dongles for trial licenses…

[Muzaq] Bitwig Studio Beta: VST Crash Handler

Well, it’s been quite some time now, since Bitwig released a Beta version to selected testers. After Ableton showed us new features for their upcoming release of Ableton Live 9, now Bitwig shows us a new video of their latest development progress in handling VST-plugins.

Now VST Support looks like having become fully integrated with integrated crash protection: when a VST plugin crashs the Bitwig will not crash aswell. Bitwig will instead allow to reload the crashed plugin or even to reload all plugins.

[Muzaq] Workaround for Audacity Crashing

Abstract

At least on a Mac Audacity seems to have issues when it comes to using third party plugins (i.e. AU or VSTs). To pinpoint which type of plugin is responsible for poor Audacity to crash, you can do the following.
