German IT-News Golem.de reports that german federal data protection officer Peter Schaar and his Berlin collegue Alexander Dix recommend not to use Spotify services as it does not comply to german data protection law (“Telemediengesetz”).
The german Telemediengesetz requires anonymous or pseudonymous registration of internet services. By forcing customers to use Facebook this law is broken by Spotify.
Today Spotify has eventually been launched in Germany. For all german users having registered in other countries via proxies now it is the time to change the country to Germany.
Sadly for new registrants: sole Spotify accounts are not available anymore. Registration requires a Facebook account since november 2011. There is no way around it. Old Non-Facebook accounts will still remain functional.
According to AllThingsDigital Facebook blocked Apple from using the Facebook API to access user data. Using Facebook’s API is normally free, but not for large scale access and not if it’s getting used a lot. iTunes got a user base of 160million, so that would be quiet a lot.
Kara Swisher writes:
Sources said Apple went ahead with a plan to access the Facebook APIs freely, but Facebook blocked it since it violated its terms of service.
As of today European GSM Palm Pre customers on the Telefonica networks (O2 Germany, O2 UK, Movistar Spain) can download and install WebOS Update 1.3.1.
After downloading the 134MBytes update it will be validate for about some five minutes. Have your battery loaded, installation will take another 10 minutes.
Now, go and get it. It has eventually some nice improvements in performance.
It also brings back support for iTunes synchronization. Albeit for iTunes 9.01 only. Current version is iTunes 9.02. So the golden rule seems to be better don’t update iTunes too early if you’re having a Palm Pre.
According to a posting to the german Nexave forums the european Palm Pre 1.3.1 update (for GSM phones) will be released on monday November 23, 2009. The update does not seem to include activation of the GPU.
We recommend to remove custom installed homebrew patches.
