[Pre] Flash Coming to Palm Pre in First Half 2010

Although beta versions of Adobe Flash for the Palm Pre seem to be available soon (at least for developers), end users will have to wait significantly longer.

Visiting http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer on a Palm Pre shows the following text.

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 is coming to Palm WebOS in the first half of 2010.

[Pre] Palm Pixi Running webOS 1.3.1 in the Wild

On November 15th, 2009 it is rumored the new webOS 1.3.1 will be made available to worldwide Palm Pre users. On Monday a video on YouTube appeared that already shows a Palm Pixi running the new webOS 1.3.1.

Besides some boost in speed, the web browser in the 1.3.1 update obviously is able to recognize Adobe Flash already, though it does not run it (screenshot below captured at 0:24).

[iPhone] Flash coming to iPhone / No Flash Player for Safari

Although Apple still does not allow plugins for their iPhone Safari browser, Adobe will bring Flash on the iPhone using a different strategy.

Adobe Flash Professional CS5 will have an export for iPhone apps. Thus allowing games and application built using Flash being compiled natively for the iPhone and being distributed via AppStore.

Sadly Adrian Ludwig clearly says in the video

“On the iPhone we don’t have a browser plugin. Flash Player 10.1 isn’t available.”

This means in contrast to the Palm Pre, Apple’s iPhone will still not be able to run Flash based internet pages.

[MacOS] Recommended Apps: MacTubes

Abstract

Do you ever wanted to download some of the YouTube videos, simply to have them available when being on the road? Or say: you wanna archive them, because as we’ve seen in the past with several major media services: there will be a time when they don’t exist anymore.

But YouTube does not support downloading their videos anymore.

MacTubes’ Features

This is where MacTubes by mametunes comes into place. MacTubes is an open source project that is freely downloadable. Besides downloading MacTubes also supports just playing YouTube videos. You also can make custom playlists without having a YouTube account.

Tips and Tricks

MacTubes is straightforward, as most of those nice freeware Mac applications are.

The only hint we can give: don’t wonder if errors occur when trying to download HD videos. This is normal. Although YouTube may show that you are playing the video in HD quality, this is not true in all cases. You can see this quite obviously when comparing the video resolutions between the normal video and the HD video just with your eyes.
