[iOS5] Workaround for iPad and iPhone w/ iOS5 running Animoog

Abstract

You absolutely like Moog’s latest iOS application named Animoog and wanna control it from your Mac but it doesn’t work and you are running iOS 5 or iOS 5.01. So at the moment it seems there is an issue in Animoog related to a modification in Apple’s CoreMidi stack. On iOS 4.3.x devices the CoreMidi connection worked.

Walkthru

I. On your iOS device do the following:

  1. I assume you already installed AniMoog, didn’t you?
  2. Please shutdown the AniMoog app, in case it is running. Don’t just put it into the multitasking background (or just reboot the iPad or the iPhone)
  3. then open the AppStore
  4. download Pad MIDI
  5. run Pad MIDI
  6. put Pad MIDI into the multitasking background
  7. start Animoog

II. On your Mac/HackMac/iMac/MacPro/whatever do the following:

[iPad] Apple Announces Slate Tablet in March

What has been rumored for so long has finally become reality. Apple today introduced the iPad or as Apple would put it: the magic experience of the internet. Worldwide product launch will be in March 2010.

Hardware
The iPad is a multi-touch device with a 9.7″ TFT display, without keyboard, but with a design and handling similar to the iPhone. It is run by an ARM 1GHz CPU and comes in flavors of 16, 32 or 64GB flash memory.

Prices
It comes as a WiFi only version or as a WiFi and 3G version.

  • iPad 16GB = 499US$ (629US$ incl. 3G)
  • iPad 32GB = 599US$ (729US$ incl. 3G)
  • iPad 64GB = 699US$ (829US$ incl. 3G)

European prices have not been announced yet. In contrast to the iPhone the iPad seems not to distributed with carrier lock, but still via AT&T in the U.S.

Compatibility
App Store applications are in many cases compatible to the iPad, aswell. An external keyboard can be bought seperately. An e-book store called iBookstore will be available at product launch in march, aswell.

Our opinion
The display size and ease-of-use known from the iPhone will be nice for browsing the web from the sofa. It lacks a camera. The integration into Apple’s eco-system of products and services makes the iPad a danger to Amazon’s Kindle, we suppose.

Sadly from the aspects of an internet device, we suspect it will not support Adobe Flash, as it it rumored to be based on the iPhone kernel, as it prohibits multi-tasking.

This in turn will also mean that the platform will be be utilizing a similar chain of trust like the iPhone. Hello GeoHot? Got some time again after playing with the PS3? A new jailbreak might be required soon ;-)

What missing? Yes, Mr. iGAF. Sadly we haven’t read anything from him yet. But the ultimate test, why the iPad is so inferior to all Microsoft Windows based Slates will come. Be sure, not to miss Uncle Mossheimer on AllThingsD when it’s story time again…

And finally here’s Apple’s iPad propaganda vid. It’s become magical ;-)

[iPhone] AT&T To Lose iPhone Exclusivity?

The last weeks are full of rumors if AT&T will prolong their exclusive contracts with Apple. Rumors say the original contracts are gonna expire in the middle of 2010.

Thus allowing Apple to negotiate with different carriers like Verizon or T-Mobile. T-Mobile is currently the exclusive partner for Apple in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.

AT&T is said is willing to prolong their contracts until the end of 2011, but Verizon and T-Mobile seem to be secretely testing Apple’s forthcoming device named internally iPhone 3,1.

[iPhone] Multi-Tasking With Multifl0w

Multifl0w is an attempt to bring multi-tasking capabilities known from our latest toy – the Palm Pre – to the iPhone. Sadly this nice (and overdue) feature is only available to iPhone customers having jailbroken their devices.

It does not feature the Palm Pre’s multitasking gestures nor the ‘swipe up to exit’ functionality, but it seems to be a first good step into bringing the iPhone to the technological presence.

There is a free trial available via Cydia and Rockyourphone. It costs about 5US$.

Check this video and the Multifl0w website for further details:

[iPhone] BlackSn0w Unlock for Latest Baseband Released

Some hours ago GeoHot released his unlock answer to the latest baseband of Apple’s iPhones. Now with BlackRa1n jailbreaking of firmware 3.12 and with BlackSn0w unlocking of baseband 05.11.07 is a hitch for almost everyone. Kudos fly out to notorious GeoHot.

[iPhone] Jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5

The QuickPwn.com team has released a jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 build 7a312G. It is based on the work by santtiaga from iPhoneApps.ru. Also Cydia is now working on iPhone OS 3.0.

If you are no developer we strongly recommend not to update to any beta of iPhone OS 3.0, because:

  1. downloading and distribution of the beta freely on the net is illegal
  2. although this jailbreak seems to work it has not been distributed by the iPhone Dev Team (as they recommend exactly the same like we do)
  3. most of the Apps available on the AppStore will still not work with iPhone OS 3.0
  4. this beta still has bugs all over
  5. for iPhone 3G users this update may render an unlock impossible

Be warned.

[iPhone] Apple to present iPhone OS 3.0 feature’s tomorrow

The News

According to several U.S. journalists, Apple will present the iPhone firmware 3.0 tomorrow. As of now there are some rumors, that it eventually will contain:

  • MMS
  • Bluetooth and USB Tethering
  • Copy and Paste

Comment

As a normal cell fon user you may ask if this is really worth the  news, since both MMS and tethering is standard in almost any 10US$ cell. Well you are right. But this is the Apple world. Apple knows by including these features their clan of fanboys will immediately be satisfied. The internet will be immediately full of flames if anyone utters criticism. Anyway we don’t believe it will have all those three features. It will have one. Firmware 4.0 will than have another of these and so on.

And there is still the question of Sun Java or Adobe Flash. What about these? Will we have them in firmware 8.0 or never? We really like the iPhone’s UI. It definitely brought the mobile internet thing major steps forward, but we expect the iPhone’s time is up. We currently recommend to not buy an iPhone or GPhone, but wait for the Palm Pre with WebOS.

Did you know the Palm Pre is beeing developed by the former Apple iPod creator Jon Rubinstein?
