[MacOS] Recommended Apps: QuickSilver

I. Abstract

You don’t like Spotlight, because it is too slow? But you want to to speed up command execution? Yes there is a nice freeware solution available called QuickSilver by BlackTree. Wikipedia writes: Quicksilver “allows users to use the keyboard to rapidly perform tasks such as launching applications, manipulating files and data, running scripts, or sending e-mail.”

You’d better get used to using QuickSilver. We strongly recommend to not use Mac OS without it:

Pitipitpitipitifully, QS is dying a slow, slow death. Some folks are trying to clean up the seemingly messy codebase, but there´s still no light at the end of the tunnel. The original developer works for Google and has transformed QS into Google Search Bar or whatever it´s called now. I checked it superbriefly – it misses all the flexibility of Qs, since there are no plugins at that time, instead adds google functionality thus bringing Qs to the internet but of course you have to allow Google to know everything about your sex life and keep the information for the next 30 gazillion years. You´re getting the picture. So I switched to Launchbar by Obdev, which is by the way the original before QS, only lacking the plugin architecture and costing a few bucks. But its a lot, and I mean a lot snappier than QS and STABLE. Do check it out!
